Got the summertime bug yet?

Although you may not have time for a full-blown vacation, we have so many options close to home for a quick get away or day trip. We have gathered some of Pennsylvania’s charming and interesting places. Get planning a trip this weekend!

Lahey Family Fun Park in Clarks Summit. Enjoy a day of family fun right in our town. Race around hairpin turns on the quarter-mile go-cart race track or hit a few balls in one of their batting cages. You can also bump around in the bumper boats, play a round of mini golf or test your skills in the arcade. For kids under 12, there is a soft playground with a three-level tube slide. Get ready to be amazed at the Houdini Museum in Scranton, where you’ll enjoy an afternoon of up-close magic, movie, tour and stage show. You may even see an audience member float in the air. Reservations are recommended.

Steamtown National Historic Site This railroad museum and heritage railroad is located on 62.48 acres in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the site of the former Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. Learn about steam railroading’s history and technology. You can watch a short film in the theater where you’ll learn about the changes the railroads underwent in the early 1900s, meander through the Technology and History museums, or go for a short ride on one of the trains. Also, on the grounds is the Electric City Trolley Museum, where you’ll find interactive displays about electric railways, hands-on exhibits for kids and trolley excursions on the Laurel Line electric interurban railroad.

Montage Mountain is a ski area in Pennsylvania, located 8 miles from downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, but no worries, during the summer months they have just as many activities to offer. With a plethora of water activities to include a lazy river, water slides and kiddie pools you will be sure to find a place to have fun. You can also enjoy a whole new world of sky travel when you take flight on Montage Mountain Waterpark’s famous ZipRider! Once on top, you will enjoy looking around for miles as you are now on one of the highest points in Northeast PA!

The Anthracite Heritage Museum, located in McDade Park in Scranton, Pennsylvania, serves the educational needs of the public regarding the story of hard coal mining, its related industries, and the immigrant culture of northeastern Pennsylvania. The Museum tells the story of the people who came from Europe to work in the anthracite mining and textiles industries.

Seven Tubs Nature Area is a 500-acre site located in Plains Township. The main feature of the area is a stream called Wheelbarrow Run that flows through a ravine where a series of large potholes or “tubs” are gouged out of the underlying bedrock. The cascade of water has attracted visitors to the site for generations. Surrounding Wheelbarrow is a forest composed of plants and animals typical of northeastern Pennsylvania. Hiking trails lead to and around the Tubs area allowing visitors to enjoy the diverse natural life and hilly terrain of the area.
